Yawny is a free theme for WordPress that’s both simple and elegant. It has been around for a little while now—most prominently as the theme for one of this very site’s earlier incarnations this very site’s current theme—but I never really got to releasing it publicly.
The version now offered for download had its underlying code overhauled completely, and makes use of the latest and greatest WordPress features. And, I’ve taken extra care to make sure it complies with (most of) the new WordPress Theme Review guidelines.
Users of modern browsers get a little text-shadow here and there, as well. (Note that the background drop shadows are not CSS-based. This may change in future versions.) The theme’s also fully translation-ready—in fact, a Dutch translation’s already included in the zip file.
Please note that Yawny borrows quite some ideas from WordPress’ default theme, Twenty Ten. Its lean and mean—hence, easy-to-maintain—source code, however, means that it does require WordPress version 3.1 or higher. But you should be updating to the latest version regularly anyways, right?
